Biography
Roland Lescure, born on November 26, 1966, in Paris, France, is an economist
and politician. He currently serves as Minister for the Economy, Finance and
Industrial, Energy and Digital Sovereignty.
Roland Lescure attended the École Polytechnique (class of 1987) and later
graduated from the École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration
économique (ENSAE) in 1992. He furthered his studies by obtaining a master's
degree in economics from the London School of Economics.
Roland Lescure began his career in the French public sector, working at the
Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Institute of Statistics and
Economic Studies (INSEE). He then transitioned to the financial industry,
holding senior executive roles at prominent institutions such as Groupama and
Natixis. In 2009, he moved to Canada to serve as the Chief Investment Officer
at the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), one of the world's
largest public investment funds, where he played a pivotal role in managing
substantial assets.
Roland Lescure’s political journey commenced with his involvement in
Emmanuel Macron's movement, La République En Marche! (LREM). In 2017, he
was elected to the French National Assembly, representing the First
Constituency for French residents overseas, which includes Canada and the
United States. During his tenure, he served as Chairman of the Economic Affairs
Committee, where he was instrumental in shaping economic policy.
In July 2022, Roland Lescure was appointed as the Minister Delegate for
Industry in the government of Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, working under
the Minister of Economy, Finance, and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. His
portfolio expanded in February 2024 to include energy, reflecting his growing
influence in industrial and energy sectors. During his ministerial tenure, Lescure
focused on decarbonizing major industrial sites and supporting companies
facing economic challenges due to rising energy costs.
In July 2024, Roland Lescure returned to the National Assembly after winning a
by-election in his previous constituency. He was subsequently elected as the
fifth vice-president of the Assembly, continuing his commitment to public
service and legislative affairs. In October 2025, Roland Lescure is appointed
Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industrial, Energy and Digital
Sovereignty under Sebastien Lecornu’s leadership.
